Let the stream of creativity flow!
What is the Stanford Storyboard Club?
The SSC is a student-led organization dedicated to the education, creation, and discussion of visual storytelling. That includes character design, concept art, illustration, writing, comics, game development, and––of course––storyboards!
Through regular weekly meetings, our members engage with the art world through art activities––such as group design exercises, figure drawing, and art games––and projects. Meetings may also host guest speaking events (previous guest speakers include Disney's Amphibia showrunner Matt Braly and Disney/Cartoon Network art director Andy Garner-Flexner), field trips, animated movie nights, free work time for our various projects.
The SSC is also very much a social space, especially for artistic Stanford students who may struggle with finding a safe space to explore their creative side with friends. Members who would rather just come, hang out, and draw with us are more than welcome! Casual social activities outside of weekly meetings, such as 'plates', karaoke, and excursions, will also be planned!
The SSC cares deeply about fostering a place for everyone to come together, support each other, and explore themselves through art and is committed to improving the club as a space for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC students & artists. As such, students and works that do not reflect our values of diversity, inclusion, and belonging are not welcome.

Tell me more about these "various projects..."The SSC's chief end-of-the-year project is our anthology book, an art book compiling participant's artwork, comics, and concept art for visual storytelling projects.
Although the club will be focusing on work for the anthology book through the winter and spring quarter, participation is optional. All members will receive a free anthology book at the end of the year regardless of participation. Members will also be offered two merch tutorials at Stanford's GSE Makery at the beginning of the winter quarter. Club staff will teach members how to make their own stickers, prints, posters, and t-shirts to give away, trade, or sell at Stanford's art vending events! Members can also choose to create and organize their own projects separate from the anthology book, such as animations, comics, and collaborative projects. The SSC's staff is committed to supporting your personal artistic journey and encourage members to find their passion in whatever form it takes! Do I need prior art experience to join? Not at all! Beginners are welcome and will receive personalized support from club staff, including resources on art materials and digital art software/hardware. There are no limitations on your preferred artistic medium as well, be it visual or writing!
How can I join? You can email the co-presidents and/or senior officers (email contacts listed below) to join our official Discord server and club mailing list to get to know our members and receive weekly news and announcements! Or you could always come to a meeting and talk to the officers in-person!
If you're on campus, we typically meet on Thursdays 8-10 PM at the Burbank Lecture Theater. Hope to see you there! |
